Methodology

How we built this

Source: public Reddit discussion for each city — its local subreddit and relocation threads — summarized into recurring themes by CityDiff across 307 US cities.248 had enough discussion to surface complaints, and we pulled 906 representative quotes in total.

Each topic carries a salience score — how prominent it is in a city's discussion — not a count of residents. We do not claim a percentage of people feel any given way; this reflects what gets discussed and upvoted on Reddit, which skews toward people with strong opinions. Free-text themes are clustered into a fixed set of neutral topics, and each city is grouped by the single topic it discusses most.

Treat this as a qualitative read on local sentiment, not a survey. Data refreshed periodically.
